Getting There
Finland is easily accessible from all over the world. International airlines have
regular flights to Helsinki from Europe and other parts of the world, and from Helsinki
there are several daily flights to Jyväskylä. Jyväskylä is easy to reach also by
train and bus. The flight from Helsinki takes about 40 minutes, the train journey
some 3 hours and the bus journey about 4 hours.
Climate
Due to its location at the Arctic Circle, Finland enjoys 'White Nights' when, in
midsummer in the north of Finland, the sun stays above the horizon for more than
70 days. Towards the end of August the days are not that long any more, but it can
still be amazingly warm even at night. The daily temperatures may, however, greatly
vary and we advise you to come prepared also for cooler weather. You can check the
weather conditions from
http://www.foreca.com/eng/weather/.
Finnish Visa Formalities
EU citizens and most other foreign nationals need no entry visa to Finland. Please
contact your travel agent or the nearest Finnish embassy or consulate for more detailed
information.
Insurance
The organisers cannot be held responsible for injuries sustained by those attending
the conference or for damage to or loss of their personal belongings, regardless
of the cause. The conference participants are advised to make their own insurance
arrangements.
Recreation
Jyväskylä (http://www.jyvaskyla.fi) offers a variety
of opportunities for dinner- or supper-time jaunts to
explore local, ethnic and global culture. Just take a walk through the downtown
pedestrian precinct and make your selection from among the restaurants, cafés and
pubs there. A nice choice of such establishments may be found in the shore side
streets by Lake Jyväsjärvi as well. There are also daily boat cruises doing the
nearby lake route.
