Population Migration and Suburbanization in the Vienna (Austria) Region

In this paper we will investigate the processes of suburbanization by use of migration information derived from population registry data. This information allows us to look at these processes at a very fine spatial and temporal scale, since the data are at the community level and give the exact date when the migration move has been recorded. In socioeconomic terms we can differentiate by age, gender, and nationality.

Our paper will investigate questions like (1) how large is the Vienna region? (2) How strong is the suburbanization tendency in the region? (3)What is the relative importance of migration from core to ring in the region versus the flow from ring to core and redistribution of population within the urban ring? (4) Are there marked spatial, temporal or socioeconomic differences in these processes?

Unfortunately full paper has not been submitted.
