Theoretical and methodological issues regarding regional variation ranking
One of the basic problems of regional studies is the ranking of regions (states) depending on one or more statistical variables analysed by a simple structure or a combined one (multi-phase analysis). Generally, the regional ranking is based on non-parametric methods.
The application uses statistical data regarding the territorial variation by county (first phase) and by region (second phase). The counties have been recorded depending upon the statistical region they belong to. The interdependence degree has been checked by means of the ANOVA analysis, using economic and demographic variables. Finally the ranking of the territorial units has been done by the average rank (arithmetic and geometric). The model can be employed for any type of regional variation included in a complex analysis.
