How to use time for bonding , bridging and linking social capital in Finland?
One of the disputes among the social capital research concerns. the individual-community dimension. Some researchers think it mostly (for instance Bourdieu and Coleman) as an attribute of individual. Others (for instance Putnam) are ap-proaching it more from the community view. In our paper we try to handle the connection between time-use of individual and social capital. We see thus the time-use of an individual as an investment . He/she can use time by different manner for different social networks. It is possible to think that different timeuse can yeld dif-ferent returns in the future for the individual. So time use can be used like educati-on. We use the time-use data of Statistics Finland of 1999-2000 and possibly 1987-1988. We try to divide the time use to three different socialising groups; bonding , bridging and linking attributes. And then we try to control if there is correlation between some background variables (the income, education level, gender, et cetera ) and time use groups. We try to find also some regional variation.
