Mapping Technopolitan Surfaces and Poles in the State of Minas Gerais - Brazil
This study aims to identify the towns of the state of Minas Gerais/Brazil, which present adequate potential probabilities to become "technopolitan poles". An index of tecnology is derived using principal component analisys with a set of 30 variables for 102 midlle size cities of the state, a regionalization using neural networks (kohoen) is produced and geostatistical surfaces are plotted in the state map using GIS environment. The results show an important concentration of potential poles in the south region of the state and isolated clusters in the west and east. The spatial pattern shows that the location of these towns is basically in the development corridors of the state.
