Endogenous Structural Change in the Spanish Rural Environment: the case of Jaén

The Spanish rural spaces have experienced a change in their productive structure. Then, a more diversified economy has become. This paper analyses the structural evolution of the urban region of Jaén. We argue that this change is endogenous. It has been encouraged by the knowledge diffusion, the productive and institutional flexibility and the territorial urbanization. As consequence of this process, this system of cities competes according to the capacity of each local productive chain to face the global environment and in accordance with organizational and territorial relationship rules that are in continuous evolution.
