The Competitiveness of Brazil in the worldwide market of pulp

This paper analyzes the competitiveness of Brazil in the worldwide market of pulp. Brazil moved up from an insignificant producer of pulp in the early of the 1960s to the sixth worldwide large producer in 2001. This progress was possible due to the increase of competitiveness obtained by Brazilian pulp makers. That competitiveness was gained in both industrial and silviculture areas. In order to demonstrate that, cost of production is compared between Brazil and other major players in the worldwide market of pulp. The paper also shows the different industrial structures that happen between Brazil and other large pulp maker-countries, as well as it shows the importance of Brazil as a supplier of the largest importing countries of pulp.
