The valuation techniques used in this study are contingent valuation and choice experiments. These methods belong to a group of stated preference techniques which are used to find the economic value of rural goods and services (rural amenities) that are not reflected in actual markets.
It is assumed that things like landscape, recreation and wildlife are important features of rural areas. It is hoped that this study can demonstrate a willingness to pay amongst Finnish citizens to for policies that support rural communities.
