Testing Porter Hypothesis in Dutch Horticulture (assigned to theme
Determinants of Program Participation reveal important information to public policy makers as they reveal systematic patterns suggestive of behavioral relationships underlying program participation decisions and the ultimate success of programs. In the Netherlands two programs are in place to stimulate the adoption of energy saving technologies. The EIA and VAMIL Program offers firms who invest in specific energy saving technologies favorable tax treatment. Firms who opt for the EIA can deduct 55% of associated investment costs from profit before tax. EIA thus reduces tax payment, while reducing energy bills of participating firms. To enroll in the EIA program firms have to be aware of the program, be eligible for it and to apply for the favorable tax treatment while deciding whether or not to invest in energy saving technology. The aim of this paper is to determine participation in the EIA and VAMIL Program in Dutch Horticulture.
