The "TechnologieZentrumDortmund" was started up in 1985 by the city of Dortmund, local banks, the University of Dortmund, the Advanced Technical College of Dortmund and several private corporations. It is a developmental and experimental centre for prototypes and pilot productions in selected technological segments.

The ARL traces it's origins back to 1946, as an independent spatial research institution. The structure was set up to serve as an network combining spatial science competence.

The wuestenrot foundation is a non-profit-making organization and one of the organizers of the special Workshop "The Spatial Implications of the New Economy" on Friday, 30st, and Saturday, 31st August. They exclusively donate welfare projects in science, research, education, arts and culture as well as the preservation of monuments.
