Authors analyze the results of designing of the railway Mainland of Russia - Sakhalin island with bridge (tunnel) transition through Nevelsky strait.

The comparative analysis of possible alternatives of creation of the steady transport passage between Continent and Sakhalin (the sea, the railway ferry, the railway through Nevelsky strait is carried out). The project is estimated from the point of view of perfection of transport communications of the Russian Far East, and also prospects of creation of the international railway transport corridor Japan - La Perouse strait - Russia - Europe (the Central Asia) on the basis of the existing transport corridor TRANSSIB, including the Pan-European Transport Corridor - 2.

In the report it is judged the big positive potential of the considered Project:

- public and a commercial effectiveness of a direct railway communication Continent - Sakhalin is the best in comparison with alternative variants in all range of possible volumes of cargo and passenger transportations;

- realization of the project reduces a transport component in the cost of manufacture of the basic kinds of production in the regions under influence that raises their competitiveness;

- steady and rather cheap transport communication improves social conditions of life of the population of Sakhalin island and will counteract negative tendentious of an isolationism and separatism;

- prospects of creation of transcontinental railway transit Japan - La Perouse strait - Russia - Europe are rather realistic in connection with significant (20-30 day) reduction of full time of delivery of cargoes, decrease(reduction) of tariff cost of delivery on 15-20 %, reduction of volumes of bank crediting of cargo.
